Earth Hour 2011 is happening on March 26, 2011 (Saturday) at 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Earth hour started in 2007 and in 2010 has grown to a record global movement that spanned to over 120 countries and territories.

WWF is one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. One of their many efforts include the Climate Savers program which provides resources and recognition for businesses, such as IBM and Nike, who are willing to reduce their carbon pollution and implement cleaner energy solutions.

In the Philippines, WWF has 15 project sites including El Nido in Palawan. They have made a baseline study in 1999 that led to the General Management Plan for the El Nido-Taytay Managed-Resource Protected Area. In 2001, seizures, apprehensions, legal fines and filed cases have been made because of their active participation.

Fun Fact: In 2009 Earth Hour, the Philippines saved an estimated 611MWh of electricity – equivalent to a temporary shutdown of a dozen coal-fired power-plants

Earth Hour is more than turning off lights, it’s about enlightening other people about the critical importance of making earth friendly choices. It is the small choices that make the collective effort great. Would you have a bleak and gray landscape or a space filled with flying majestic birds, teeming vivid flowers with some cute little pandas? Help them help us. Donate to WWF. Because the earth is not just trees and water, it’s us.

I give to WWF because they take care of the environment while I'm away from the country.
